Academic Programs

CHS academic programs include Certificates, Seminars, and Symposia. The academic programs support the mission of CHS by offering courses and other academic forums that focus on the critical issues pertaining to homeland security and homeland defense. Certificate program courses are offered in cooperation with academic departments within the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Seminars are conducted to bring together audiences from academia; federal, state, and local government; the military; and industry. Symposia allow participants to engage in-depth on important challenges of homeland security and homeland defense facing the nation.

CHS works closely with the colleges of the university in devising contemporaneous curriculum relating to its mission. CHS instructors collaborate with campus faculty to develop cutting edge academic programs. As a result, CHS courses are designed to meet the needs of our partners while remaining fully connected to the university. The four courses comprising the graduate certificate in Homeland Defense may be applied to the Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) degree with the Graduate School of Public Affairs and as electives in other graduate degree programs.

CHS is managing a campus-wide effort to define a graduate degree in Homeland Security. In addition, homeland security related courses will be included as option courses for many existing graduate programs.
